Lesson on Alginate at Kisarazu High School
Kisarazu High School is designated as one of the “Super Science” high schools that practices advanced science and mathematics education. As part of their education, we gave a lecture on the alginate industry, which is one of the industries rooted in the local area of Chiba.
The lessons were devised under the theme of “delicious food with seaweed ingredients,” so that students could enjoy learning about alginate. In addition to the lectures, simple experiments using alginate took place. The students were very interested in how alginate and calcium react and instantly became a gel. We hope that this course was a learning experience for all students and served as an opportunity to deepen their interest in chemistry and their understanding of alginate.
